Hall Tree Questions, Answered
Quick answers on size, ceiling height, storage and setup before you choose.
What is a hall tree?
A hall tree is freestanding entryway furniture that combines a place to hang coats, a bench to sit on and storage for shoes and small things. Our Vestia modules are tall, wardrobe-style hall trees with open hanging space, drawers and top cabinets; the Vestia 3-Door adds a built-in bench. See our hall tree guide.
Will a Vestia hall tree fit under my ceiling?
Every Vestia module is 101.5 in (8 ft 5.5 in) tall including the crown molding, so a standard 8 ft (96 in) ceiling is too low. Plan for a ceiling of at least about 102 in, plus a little extra room to tilt the panels upright during assembly.
Which Vestia has a bench?
Only the Vestia 3-Door has a built-in bench, with two soft-close drawers under it. The 2-Door and 4-Door are hall-tree style wardrobes without a seat; add a separate bench or stool if you want to sit by the door.
Can I hang long coats in it?
Yes, in the Vestia 3-Door, which has 64.2 in of open hanging height on two metal rods, enough for full-length coats and maxi dresses. The 2-Door has 42.6 in for jackets and shirts, and the 4-Door 51.4 in behind a tall door for shirts, blazers and knee-length dresses.
How much weight can the rods, drawers and shelves hold?
On the 3-Door, the closet rod is rated for 110 lbs, each drawer for 33 lbs and each shelf board for 22 lbs. The 4-Door rod is rated for 110 lbs, its pull-out trays for 33 lbs and shelves for 22 lbs. The 2-Door drawers and shelves are rated for 22 lbs each, and its dimension diagram lists a 176 lb closet rod.
How does the built-in lighting work?
The Vestia 3-Door and 2-Door have LED strip lighting above the hanging area, controlled by an included wireless remote. It has three settings: natural light (5500K) for checking true clothing colors, warm light (3000K) and a low setting for early mornings. The 4-Door has no lighting.
How much space do I need for a hall tree?
Measure the wall at the crown: 40.9 in wide for the 2-Door, 58.6 in for the 3-Door and 59.1 in for the 4-Door, all about 25 in deep. Leave about 36 in of clear floor in front so you can sit on the bench, open the drawers and walk past, and keep the front door swing clear. See our entryway ideas.
Do Vestia hall trees need assembly and anchoring?
Yes. Each module ships flat-packed and takes two adults about 180 minutes to assemble with the included hardware plus a pencil, hammer and screwdriver. At 101.5 in tall, every module should be secured to a wall stud with an anti-tip safety kit before you load it.
